Who is Michelda?

Michelda George is a South Florida native with Haitian roots. Her immigrant parents migrated from Haiti to the United States in 1979. She I grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida during the 90s when being Haitian wasn’t so cool. Back in 2008, she finally got the piece of the “American pie”. Michelda's family purchased a grocery store and she quit her comfy position at American Express to manage the family business for nearly 4 years. From that experience, she learned a tremendous amount of knowledge from what appeared to be a failure at the time. Michelda learned how the lack of financial education is the primary reason small businesses failed within 3-5 years; both in business & in handling personal finances.

After working with Director R Malcolm Jones in 2015 she landed a role as the Associate Producer of a short film entitled “Brown Ballerina” with Crown Me Royal Labs, where she played a huge role behind the scenes handling the logistics for the company. From the creative process to also handling Budgeting, PR, Marketing/Branding, and Social Media. In addition to that, she organized a successful eight-city tour around the US; she even hosted a few of those events. This experience fueled her desire, even more, to build and perfect her professional skills in finance and the arts. If that wasn’t enough, Michelda is a CREATIVE. She has performed her spoken-word poetry all around the country. In addition to that she draws, paints, and writes poetry and music. Michelda now uses the same public speaking skills and her ability to connect with a crowd to bring awareness to African-American communities about Financial Literacy, Ownership, and Economic inclusion.

Fast forward a few years, and Michelda is an undercover entrepreneur with a creative sixth sense hiding out in government at the Utah Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity. In her current position as the Strategic Programs Manager of the Utah Small Business Credit Initiative, she aids small businesses and entrepreneurs in disadvantaged communities to gain access to capital. —BREATHE! Yeah, we know! She’s pretty freakin’ AMAZING!
